About me
Understanding the importance of trauma awareness and the impact of trauma responses on relationships expanded as I underwent my own therapy journey. I came to understand these negative relational patterns repeating at home and work were linked to experiences from childhood - some even passed down from generations.
As I began to heal and develop my own sense of self after burnout, I realized that the journey of cultivating compassion is not just about understanding our past but also about empowering ourselves to create a future where we can thrive. It became clear that true transformation starts from within, and through this inner growth, we can positively influence our relationships and communities.
My work is to support adults to cultivate compassion and a sense of self so they can grow from the inside out. Cultivating Compassion was founded with a desire to reduce harm from conflict so people could experience more love, connection and fulfilment. When we know what loving ourselves feels like, our lives naturally improve and this ripples out to the world…
It is my mission to create a safe space for seekers of real connection to feel their feelings and learn relational skills for secure, healthy, happy relationships – both with themselves and others. A therapist can provide that corrective healing relationship to show your system that it is possible and safe to trust, and safe to be seen and heard.
You can trust that I have your best interest at heart,
Shellie
A path toward connection…
I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor and Psychotherapist and Educator who demonstrates warmth, relatability and knowledge of trauma and the nervous system. In addition to my current therapeutic work, I have worked across various community sectors facilitating emotional intelligence and relational skill building in small group settings.
I have supported people in crisis for Lifeline, Australia and have years of experience as a meditation and mindfulness practitioner. Following a love of culture, community and connection, I spent several years travelling and working internationally. I have extensive knowledge in psychosocial and disability supports with over a decade of experience.
I live in the Northern Rivers with my partner and when not working, I love hanging with family and friends, practicing yoga, dancing, meditative nature walks and curling up with a good book.
